Most of the day was spent driving to our furthest Northern stay at Denham.
We set off at 10.00 am and arrived at Denham at about 2pm. We drove 326 kilometres and hardly saw another car. There were quite a few road trains coming from the opposite direction. road trains usually are lorries about 40 m long and have three trailers.
The scenery kept changing sometimes golden sand, sometimes red sand, sometimes trees, sometimes bush plants. We passed a few lakes but they were completely dry.
We turned off the highway at Overland and followed the world heritage drive for 150km. This road was much narrower than the highway and looked like it was once a dirt track.
It passed close to the ocean. At one point 5 emus decided to cross the road! They walked sedately across not running like ostriches! Apparently the male emu looks after the baby emus for about 15 months.
Having thought we had seen all the wildlife for the day we arrived in Denham and in the street where we were going to stay there were 2 more emus outside somebody’s house!
Denham is a very small town. We bought some mullet for tea and then went to the pub for a drink. They gave us a raffle ticket for a Jag the joker event. If my ticket was chosen we got the chance to choose a playing card. If the joker was turned over you won $11000. Sadly our tickets were not chosen we were 10 out!
Another beautiful sunset finished the day before we returned to the house to cook the mullet.
