Today we spent a long day in Fremantle.

When we arrived we noticed there was a large cruise ship in the harbour called the Radiance of the Sea





We set off by bus  at 10.00 and arrived around 10.30.   It was a very interesting place full of character and old fashioned buildings. We walked around a bit but it was extremely hot today so ended up riding on a free bus for a bit and went to the beach.  I paddled in the Indian Ocean but didn't get a full swim so we sat under a tree near the beach for a bit relaxing and cooling off.

Back in the town we had some delicious ice cream and then went to the Harbour. But just as I decided to have a swim the weather totally changed. You could see lightning in the distance  and it gradually came nearer. The rain could be seen across the sea and then suddenly the downfall was upon us. It was exceedingly  strong rain, everyone ran for shelter in the nearby restaurant.

It lasted  about 10 minutes and then was gone leaving some very wet people and few floods in the roads. The sun came out immediately! followed by a rainbow

We decided to eat at a restaurant in Fremantle this evening so didn't get back to the apartment until 7.30pm. We listened to the news and it said that the rain in Perth consisted of Hailstones  and trees had  fallen down, so it was lucky we were in Fremantle!!

    Did you find the fish and chip restaurant in Fremantle near the boat yard fishing harbour it was called Cicerellios it was like a mini ware house inside It only cost us $6.20 (£2.95) then for both of us a good feed There were some American Military ships from the Sudan on there way home which we visited, one was an aircraft carrier the USS Essex There were traffic jams then took us an hour from Perth but it didn't rain then your Mum bought herself a dress there can't remember which one it was

    No didn't see that. the heat then the rain prevented us walking round too much, so we just had a meal in the Town in an Italian restaurant. The bus trip was only about 20 mins from where we are staying.

Discovering the South West

Today we drove further South to the very far south west point of Australia where the Indian Ocean meets the Southern Sea. On the way we passed through lots of lovely forested areas and  the Margaret River winery region and stopped at Margaret River town for a coffee. Nearby the coffee shop was a historical museum which showed how the English people lived when they first arrived in Australia. It was very hard!  I am always in awe of these people who set off into the unknown to get a better life in the late 1800s.  A guide told us that we were current[y passing through the area of Sussex and she thought it ironic we live in Sussex in England. Having left Bexhill yesterday around 815am we arrived in Perth about 24 hours later. We started the trip by using the No 1 lounge at Gatwick and then had a 6.5 hour trip to Dubai. During that flight we had a good chat with a lady who lived in Sydney. She had been helping at the koala bear hospital during the recent  fires. At Dubai we had a 2 hour changeover. It was such a busy place. Every Emirates plane seems to descend on Dubai between 12.00 and 2.00 am And the passengers disperse to other planes ( reminded me of the South Mimms changeover for coach trips!) The Perth flight was more turbulent than the flight from Gatwick but we still arrived on time after 9.5 hours We  are now enjoying a drink in the country Comfort hotel , having called them for a courtesy ride from the airport. It is 9.00pm and the temperature is a lovely 25 degrees. We have been chatting with a pleasant Scottish couple  who arrived about 2 weeks ago. But they  are off to New Zealand to...

We had another drive round this area today mainly visiting lots of the lovely beaches nearby. Our first stop was at a place called Castle Rock. It was still quite early in the morning and the weather was still wild and windy, the sea was very rough. Bob discovered some  walking  trails here so we headed off to have a look at Castle Rock. Nearby were some lookouts built especially to watch for  whales but as they don't come here until  about April or May we didn't use the facility. Each beach we visited was very different, parking was free and some had picnic tables  showers and toilets. We then  headed to the lighthouse on this peninsular.  However  we didn't stay long  because  this place was full of flies and wasps. There were also dragonflies who were obviously having a good feast!!
